Citizen of the Year        back

The Rotary Club of Dronfield are delighted to announce that their annual Citizen of the Year award has been presented to Mrs Christine Hibberd.

The award is in recognition of her tremendous efforts in organising the complete renovation of the Holmesfield Village Playground. The Project went far beyond the replacement of old equipment as it also involved improving drainage, creating a ball games area, a picnic area with a big open shelter, a bike run, a bog garden and a wild flower area. Chris took on the duties of Project Manager, Fund Raiser, Labourer and Gardener, she liaised with the Parish Council, local residents and their children and was the driving force behind the project.

As the Playground slowly took shape she spent some part of almost every day on the site and, as her sponsors put it “without the dedication and determination of Chris to see this through to a successful ending this huge project would not have happened.”

In addition to an illuminated certificate which was presented to Chris by Rotarian John Smith the current President of the Rotary Club of Dronfield Chris was also presented with a cheque for £100 for the charity of her choice which is the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust.
