The Edge Challenge 2009        back
On Saturday 22nd August around 60 walkers donned their boots to take part in our first ever Rotary Club of Dronfield Edge Challege.
Participants had a choice of two routes – a 15 mile easier walk along the beautiful Dronfield 2000 Rotary Walk or a challenging 27 mile walk taking in the Rotary Walk along with an extension towards Curbar and back along White Edge and Totley Moss.
The Challenge was featured in the Long Distance Walkers Association calendar and attracted participants from Newcastle, Birmingham and beyond.

The club was delighted at the response and hopes that this will become an annual event for the Rotary Club of Dronfield.
The Dronfield 2000 Rotary Walk was initiated as a millennium project by the Rotary Club of Dronfield and has proved to be an immensely popular walk taking walkers through the beautiful countryside surrounding our town. Rotarians still give a lot of support to ensure that the route and signage are in tip-top condition.
Saturday’s event saw the walkers and runners (the first to complete the 27 mile route finished in a blistering 4 hours 6 minutes!) blessed with warm sunshine and a gentle breeze as they crossed the purple heather clad moors.

Chris Burke, President of the Club praised the hard work of the organisers and commented that many participants had said how much they enjoyed the walk and the wonderful scenery in this part of Derbyshire. Almost all of them hope to come back next year to do the walk again.
The Edge Challenge raised almost £400, which will go to support Rotary’s charities.
