Fund raising for polio eradication        back

The Rotary Club of Dronfields current fund raising for Polio Plus polio eradication now stands at £1271.82 for the year July 2009/2010. A collection at Sainsbury's Dronfield raised £391. Our share of joint projects with the Rotary Club of Drone Valley added £214 from the St George's Day band concert and £666.82 from the combined Dronfield Junior Schools' collections. Other events planned in the next few weeks include a sponsored cycle ride, fire brigade car wash, and a collection at Sheffield FC.

PolioPlus is the most ambitious program in Rotary's history, is the volunteer arm of the global partnership dedicated to eradicating polio. For more than 20 years, Rotary has led the private sector in the global effort to rid the world of this crippling disease. Today, PolioPlus and its role in the initiative is recognized worldwide as a model of public-private cooperation in pursuit of a humanitarian goal.

In addition to providing financial and volunteer support, Rotary works to urge support from other public and private sector partners. This includes the campaign to  Polio Now, inspired by the extraordinary challenge grants received from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
